rrdtool takes wrapping at the word boundary into consideration, so don't worry
about the resetting of the value.

rrdtool create eth0.rrd --step 60 DS:rx:COUNTER:120:0:U DS:tx:COUNTER:120:0:U RRA:AVERAGE:.5:1:1440

that'll hold 1440 piecs of data, one for each minute in a day

when you query the counter, you'll get a per second rate, so no need to divide.
