Well I brought the log file from the pure MRTG box over to the RRDTOOL one
and deleted the .rrd files so they would be recreated.
All the data is present. I dumped the rrd file to see what the peak values
really are: 1.1342700000e+05 so well withinn spec. ( I know this does not
really prove what the RRDTOOL machine received but I had a long peak 2 days
ago and see a whole bunch of 1.1342700000e+05 so it is fairly safe to
assume that this was the value received by the other box as well)
Just in case, I did increase my max value to 150K from 125K and will see
what happens the next time the line peaks.
Thanks

Please respond to

Could it be that the two machines are collecting data at slightly
different times and that although MRTG saw a collection of 122K
the other machine may have seen the collection at say 126K (being
slightly out of sync with the first collection) and so the data
was dropped? You would need to increase the maximum to rule this
out as a possibility.

I am monitoring a T1 line, mrtg does the data collection for rrdtool.
I still have the old machine running pure MRTG and I see a peak on the T1
at 122.5kBs (98%).
On the test machine I see nothing for the duration of the peak; this is the
definition of the RRD (done by mrtg)
ds[ds0].type = "COUNTER"
ds[ds0].minimal_heartbeat = 600
ds[ds0].min = 0.0000000000e+00
ds[ds0].max = 1.2500000000e+05
ds[ds0].last_ds = "1910596238"
ds[ds0].value = 1.4961330000e+04
ds[ds0].unknown_sec = 0
but this is what a fetch shows as the data:
1016456400: 1.1284171480e+05 9.5934810889e+03
1016456700: 1.1345647667e+05 9.1879496000e+03
1016457000: nan 2.5609493156e+04
1016457300: nan 1.0274055533e+04
1016457600: nan 9.4457169333e+03
1016457900: nan 1.4213377662e+04
1016458200: nan 1.0769259249e+04
I would suspect an out of range value but mrtg reports only 122K while the
max is set at 125K.
Anyone have a clue?
(mrtg is 2.9.12a and rrdtool is 1.0.33)
