[rrd-users] Explanation of 'format' structure for PRINT command

I am trying to get the syntax of the PRINT command for RRDTOOL GRAPH.

When I run

rrdtool graph test.gif
DEF:inoctets=router.rrd:input:MAX PRINT:inoctets:MAX:'%lf'

at the command prompt, I get the result 0x0 (which I understand as it has
not produced a graph) and then '-1.#IND00 '.

If I run the GPRINT command I get the graph with the same '-1.#IND00 '
result in the legend.

I have read the manual on the PRINT function of the command but can someone
explain the correct syntax and meanings of the options for the format
option. - %le, %lf, etc.

Also, once I have the correct formatting, how do I add text to identify what
it represents. And is there any control over the placement of the results if
I do more than one.

Thanks

Steve Carter
