No, but updates on a DS have to follow each other within the heartbeat
of the DS.

If your step is 5 minutes and you are updating approximately every 5
minutes, make sure the heartbeat of your DS's are over 5 minutes. Take
600 secs for instance.

Also, be sure the value you insert is between the min and max values for
the DS and check if you haven't defined your DS to be a counter when it
should've been a gauge value.
