Well, the -IR and the -Ib flag make the snmp tools do subsearches.
By default both options are enabled, but the maual only tells you how to
disable one of them, strangely.

You can set the environment variable PREFIX to "", then it should not
try .iso.org.dod.inter-net.mgmt.mib-2.<oid>
But the best option seems to be to precede your oid with a dot.

See 'man snmpcmd', section 'RANDOM ACCESS MIBS'

Serge.

Thanks a bunch for your swift reply Serge! That's solved my problem.

Just out of curiosity, how is the setting "use default prefix" set?

Best Regards
/j-p.

precede it with a dot to bypass it from auto fill in.

snmpget bla bla .1.3.6.1.2.1.etc

Subject: [rrd-users] [OT]: Toggle 1.3.6.1.2.1 prefix

Hello List...

Sorry about this off-topic question. I'm using NET-SNMP tools
snmpget/walk/etc. However on one installation I have to type in the
full
OID to obtain a result, and on another installation the prefix
1.3.6.1.2.1
is set as a default. I'd like know how to override/toggle this default
prefix utilization.

I've searched around for the solution but to no avail as yet. Any help
much appreciated.

thanks
/j-p.
