[rrd-users] Please no spikes. How can I eliminate the undesirables from my RRDs ?

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Please would you help me eliminate aberrant data from my RRDs ?

The data results in spikes in the graphs and is

. always occurring at the same time each day (when the collector - ntop
- was restarted. Dev versions of the collector [ntop < 2.2] were much
less stable; restarting reduced the likelihood of failures)

. characterised by large numbers - clipped by rrdcgi so I don't know
exactly what the values are - that are however, the same vaue in the
graph as genuine maxima.

. stored in the RRD as COUNTER (byte counts of protocols etc)

What I think I would like to do is replace all instances of the values
at the restart time (23:59) with UNKNOWNs _or_ have the graph ignore
those values while processing large values that occur at other times.

I am going to follow Alex's suggestions about temporarily putting in a
MAX value before restoring the previously saved contents but I wonder
are there any other ways.

Is simply editing the XML a possibility ?

Yours sincerely.

continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a
manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes
me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know
for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee...'
