Annoying results?  Not really.  What you are missing is a foundation.
You try to understand RRDtool from your point of view, a view that
does not match reality.

Try to understand RRDtool from its point of view.  Try the tutorial.
And, last but not least: RTFM.

RRDtool is not a classic database nor is it a drawing program.
COUNTER does not mean "do not touch just store it", that is something
mysql does for you.

RRDtool is a specific tool which you should have chosen to do a certain
task.  What you are doing now is complain loudly that rrdtool does not
do what you think it should do.  That is the opposite world!
