[rrd-users] Build problem with rrdtool-1.0.49 on AMD64

Hi all,

I'm trying to build rrdtool-1.0.49 on an AMD64 machine running Linux
2.6.5-7.111-smp.

The error I get is:

LD_RUN_PATH="" cc  -shared -L/usr/local/lib RRDs.o -L../src/.libs/
-lrrd_private   -lm -o blib/arch/auto/RRDs/RRDs.so
/usr/lib64/gcc-lib/x86_64-suse-linux/3.3.3/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
../src/.libs//librrd_private.a(parsetime.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 can
not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
../src/.libs//librrd_private.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I have been unsuccessful so far in trying to compile librrd_private.a with
-fPIC. Can someone help me out on this?
