Yes, that's because an update isn't done within an acceptable
period of time.  RRDtool will then insert "NaN" values in the
database, to indicate something went wrong.

This is configured by the "heartbeat" setting.  Look in the
docs for details, choose an appropriate amount of time and
alter your database with "rrdtool tune".
