I've had this exact problem, but not with just 2 data points. I had
several where just 1 was unknown, about 2 were 0 and 3 or so more were
various values. The unknown value was only stored as 0.
Unfortunately, the only solution I had was to recreate the rrd file w/
version 1.0.x. Then the value was correctly stored as unknown. Might not
be the solution you're looking for, but it worked for me. This seems
like a bug in 1.2 to me...
