I believe gifs are not supported in the latest versions. But I'm pretty
sure you can use png instead. Png is supported in all browsers and
platforms. 

For an image you can use <img src=picture.png title="picture.png"> to
get the filename showing up when placing the mouse cursor over the
picture.
