[rrd-users] Get Data from RRD File (not graph it)

Hi

I need to automate an script to collect the average from some MRTG graphics
in RRD format. 

I’m trying to use RRDtool to fetch data from a RRD file but I’m not
understanding the results. What I need to do is collect from an RRD file
generated by an MRTG the average from last month (for example from
Oct/01//2011 till Oct/31/2011). Like the values showed in the graph in MRTG. 
 
I’m using the rrdtool fetch command, but I got a lot of data and don’t know
how to get the average from this data. 
 
Could you help me to understand the best way to obtain the data I need ?
