Does the /tmp/test.rrd file actually exist?  I'd expect this if the file didn't exist - or if it had incorrect permissions.  Are you using SELinux and it's blocking the write maybe?

mmap seems to be at the root of a lot of issues, it’s a shame there isn't a commandline switch to disable it.
