You think so?  I have the opportunity to possibly 
purchase a SunFire 280 or 3 IBM Intel servers.  You're 
telling me that there is basically no comparison, and 
that I should probably go with the 3 IBMs and 
put linux on them?

I was actually leaning towards the Solaris box until 
I read this...

ext2fs on linux is quite a bit faster albight less save than ufs on
solaris ...

it is likely that linux will give you more mrtg/rrdtool/smokeping
bang on the same HW than solaris ...
