buying a bigger box will not help ... the reason it is not
finishing is latency ... pinging just takes time ... fping has to
wait for the responses of all these boxes out there ... but as i
said, fping takes many parameters and you might want to play with
them ...

note that smokeping does not actually duplicate entries. It just
tries to build some sort of curve between the different ping times
... the curve is built in 5 minute steps (by default) if an update
comes late there is some tolerance built in where smokeping will
continue to keep the curve connected ... if the update does not
arrive for too long a time the curve will get broken.

oh yes, and note that the curve we are building is stair shaped ...
