This is it ... if you look at the code in smokeping-2.0rc3 it is
fairly simple ... to get it working ... just check for
RRDs::VERSION and make sure the :s are escaped in COMMENT arguments
...

The problem lies (and this is the reason I did not change smokeping
1.x) deeper in the sense that the layout of the graph need
changeing as well because the new rrdtool uses fonts with different
spacing than the old one ...

the simplest approach in my eyes would be to add rrdtool 1.0.50
into the smokepig 1.41 port and thus make it standalone ...
