[mrtg] monitoring ethernet card

Hi!

I'm new to this list and new in mrtg:)
I have Debian Slink 2.1 and would like to monitor an ethernet card
with mrtg. How can I configure mrtg to count bytes instead of
packages. Or do I configure snmpd?
