[mrtg] ATM / aal5 / DSL / MRTG

Hi,
I have gotten into DSL in the past couple months for the company and need
to monitor my individual DSL interfaces. I currently have them being
monitored but only through the "access layers" and not through the actual
interface. MRTG doesn't like to talk to the interfaces directly for some odd
reason. I've looked through the mailing list and have noticed that I'm not
alone with this problem.
What is the best way to go about monitoring individual DSL interfaces?
Going off topic, if it is by IP, what is the best way to statically assign
my PPP DSL customers? Some have Cisco 675's and some have the Intel internal
modems right on their 95/98 box....Currently I do it through a dhcp pool for
each static that I want and then make a new virtual-template for each. This
seems rather stupid though, is there a smarter way? USWest setup the router
initially and did a poor job of it.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Casey
