[mrtg] Threshold examples

Does anyone have any good examples of using Threshold checking?  I 
just had a brilliant idea to use threshold checking on my MRTG graphs 
of our modem pools.  Whenever the modem pool maxes out I'd like it to 
send an informative e-mail stating what happened.  Does anyone have 
an useful scripts, examples or words of wisdom for doing this?  TIA
