[mrtg] Weird behavior with indexmaker

I know this sounds odd, but my indexmaker has changed!  The command

>indexmaker wan.cfg "WAN Circuits" `*.*`

gives me a BER.pm: permission denied error  ??????
and the output to stdout doesn't give me any of the targets in the config file, wan.cfg!

It ONLY works if I put

>indexmaker wan.cfg TITLE `*.*`

and then I get the HTML with the targets...  WHAT is up with THAT??  BER.pm
shouldn't be called at all by indexmaker!  I grep'd the file and it doesn't appear anywhere...

This worked fine a few weeks ago...   ANY clue??  This is indexmaker from the
2.5.1 distro....  Old, yes, but I can't always get the newest stuff and it worked before!
