I did run MRTG manually from the command line at first and received
the normal error messages about the log files, but when I ran it for
the third time, the messages were gone. I already receive daily cron
messages and they do not report any errors related to MRTG
Thanks

Hi Leonard,
If you run MRTG "manually", from a console or xterm, do you get any
complaints or errors? I've never heard of running MRTG against a
plain
old IP (no SNMP), but MRTG is so flexible that I won't discount it.
:)
Also, if you're running it from cron, and your crontab has a MAILTO=
variable in it, the cron daemon will mail you any errors it sees when
processing jobs.
Hope this helps,
Eric
