[mrtg] Polling interval question- I think

I set Interval:1 in my .cfg file and the .rrd file modification time updates
every minute as well. But I just used rrdtool dump, and the data itself is
only updating every 5 minutes. Why is this? Shouldn't the data update every
1 minute? Isn't MRTG just reading the current counter on the router, or does
THAT counter only update every 5 minutes? I'm just using the default mib
(none specified in other words for bytes in and out.
