[mrtg] SNMP Error

I'm getting the following when I run MRTG:

SNMP Error:
close: Bad file descriptor

with the usual details regarding the host...

This error only occurs for the first interface on the hosts I am
monitoring... for example; the above error shows up for host 10.2.1.204,
which is a switch... ethernet interface 1 is not updated, but the
remaining interfaces are.

Why am getting this error?
