I've downloaded a demo version of software that sends a SMS using a modem connect directly to the PC. I prefer this method as it's not dependant on the internet being 'up'. You can also generate a SMS from the command prompt .
My trial version has now expired but it did work well in testing.
It's called SMS Centre

Does any one know of any SMS tools or modules that can be used in
conjunction with MRTG for notifying people when there is a network problem?
