Another option is to create a second network, with private addressing, 
and use that for backups only.  That way you still see actual traffic 
for the graphs of each interface and dont have to cut the spikes off 
(which would cause you to miss DoS attacks and such).  But, a second 
network depends on how many servers you have of course.  If you have the 
NICs and a hub/switch then it may be beneficial.
