[mrtg] Adding a new interface

Hi Group,
I am monitoring the router using mrtg. If I have to add a new interface to a
router do I have to rerun the configmaker?(I believe we have to, because
those interfaces are remarked as administratively down) By doing so all my
existing interface id's are going to change and so all my previous capture
will be gone. Anybody faced this issue before. Have any good workaround for
this.
