[mrtg] unix install

Hello,
I have installed MRTG on windows but never unix (FreeBSD )
I am slighty confused here.
I have gd-2.0.15 installed.
I have libpng and zlib
I can not get pass the part that says too many bad things happened.
I tried some different things.
./configure --with-gd-inc=/usr/local/ --with-z=/usr/local/ --with-png-/usr/l
ocal

It says found gd.h but stops.
I guess it has something to do with the way gd was first installed.

I am trying to follow the setup docs if  you don't have them but being a
newbie not sure it that is a good thing to do. I hate to blow out  the
programs I have running.

so what do I need to do ?
