[mrtg] IFIndex and MRTG

Hello, 
Everytime my service provider reboots my router my IFINDEX numbers within the router shifts. Is there a way to monitor my router interfaces without the use of the IFIndex. I am in a mixedenvironment where I have routers that use IP unnumbered, and I also have interfaces that have numbered IP interfaces. So Can it monitor routers that have both IP numbered and IP unnumbered interfaces without the use of IFINDEX? Appeciate your assistance.
