Ok. To understand your environment, please give a few more details.
How big of an mrtg installation do you have? Are you monitoring tens,
hundreds, or thousands of devices?
Are you using snmp v3?
Are you using rateup or rrdtool?
if rrdtool, which front-end?
Do you use thresholding? or read the rrdfiles with another application?

Depends on the scaling answers above. rrdtool is disk intensive. For
my installation, with about 570 devices (and about 8800 targets) I would
not have wanted to try to deal with ESX disk performance.

The CHANGES file is pretty sparse. Mostly twiddling with the snmp
libraries and adding Holt-Winter's aberrant behavior detection.
