There is another solution. Use a proxy to convert the v1 to v2c (or even
v3) and back between your GSRs and your mgmt software.
Various folks sell em, including http://www.snmp.com.
It's not pretty, but it works and proxies are better understood now with the
latest V3 rfcs and should ease the transition to SNMPv3.
