[rrd-users] gathering system data

I am new to RRDTool. I like what Neal Pressman has done, but I am having a
brain dump when it comes to recreating his work. The link shows his outputs

I am trying to use perl and common shell commands to capture data and feed
that data to RRDTool.  I was wondering if anyone has done this and if anyone
has used RRDTool with NetSaint?
