When doing this you must understand that you are getting rates out
of the original .rrd file so you have to feed rates into the new
.rrd file as well ---> GAUGE.

of course it doesn't.  RRDtool databases never grow in size, unless
you use the "rrdtool resize" command.

Try fetching the information from the newly created database. I guess
it isn't the same as what you put into it.  See my first remark.
