[rrd-users] Converting historic time to post-epoch format

Previously I was using "date $old_time +%s" (and $old_time in the format
of yymmddHHMM) in my rrd-update script.

And I ran that as root (yuck!), so somehow, I believe, my system clock got
reset a few times this way (perhaps when there was a space in $old_time
and the above command dropped the "tail" after the space and reset time?).

I wonder if anyone has the same need of converting non-current time and
if so how you do it.

Any info is much appreciated.....Bill
