note that the stepping of a graph only changes when rrd files are
created from scratch ... the step of exising rrd files does not

rrd stores data at different resolutions for different amounts of
time ... the idea is, that the older the data gets the less
interested you are in fine resolution ...
The config below is what I recomment for smokeping, even though it
is storing way more information than the current interface displays
.. but while we are at it, we might as well store the info maybe
someone comes up with a nice analysis later ...
individual values are the rrdtool create parameters for RRA
