Nothing shows up in syslog.  Sorry, I thought I mentioned that.

Nope.  --debug shows some output, but I didn't change any of those settings.
 Debug output is at http://theapt.org/smokeping.debug.txt  I have also
recopied the smokeping.cfg file.
